Real Fruit Smoothie

McDonald’s has introduced a new menu item, real fruit smoothies. When I read this article I was kind of excited because I love smoothies. I make smoothies at my house at least 5 times a week. I love it because it’s a get way to include different fruits into my diet, but in more of a dessert form. When I read this article I started wondering what’s actually in the smoothie, because I know the McDonalds crew won’t be specially blending my smoothie from scratch like other places do. So I googled McDonalds real fruit smoothies and was able to find the nutrition facts. I think the term real fruit smoothie is misleading because I would assume that everything in it would be good for you. When I read what is in it, the smoothie had maltodextrin, maltodextrin, and vegetable gum in it. I don’t know what these things are but I know when I make real fruit smoothies at home it actually has real fruit and no strange extras. 1. Well I wasn’t surprised to see that there isn’t much fruit in the new smoothies, but what did surprise me was that they were only going to offer two flavors. McDonalds which has variety of everything, their McFlurries four flavors, shakes four to five flavors, and five different burgers and four different chicken varied sandwiches (I’m making up these numbers,) But still I would have thought McDonald would have put more flavors on the menu. I'm not a fan of smoothies but I'm all for a flavorful way of getting your fruit. I'm with you on this one Christy, which I think is a first.

  2. I do think it's interesting that McDonalds is introducing smoothies to their menu, I'm sure it will help them in the recent health food trend. I was looking at the nutrition facts and was surprised that the smoothies are less than 300 calories and 4 grams of fat. For anything on the McDonalds menu, that is pretty healthy. Then, I got to the sugar content. 42 grams of sugar! That's insane! No wonder all our kids are getting type 2 diabetes. I also think that the reason they are just introducing a couple flavors at the beginning is because they want to see if the products are popular enough to develop them more. I'm sure these will be popular, as a healthier alternative to milkshakes with their hamburgers. These smoothies are considered pretty healthy especially when compared to the milkshakes they serve. Maybe this is a sign of things to come for McDonalds with expanding their healthier options!
