I found this week's article topic to be pretty interesting so I did a little more research and found an interesting article. People, as well as some businesses are beginning to become more aware of their affect on the environment. However, I think that businesses have a larger responsibility than people because of their size and the amount of resources they use. Luckily, from our discussion in class I learned that some restaurants are beginning to choose more recyclable products because they are concerned about how they are affecting the environment. In Sweden, along with a few other countries, have announced that they will begin to create a labeling process that will help consumers in making better choices concerning their carbon emission. The development of this plan is still in its early stages, most labels being made currently hold no comprehensible information for those without education in how to read and understand them. The example it gave in the article of a label looks wierd and un readable. I know that if I were to see that on a favorite food of mine, I would have no idea what to make of it or understand how it affects me. This is a big issue in the formulation of the plan to cut carbon footprints, and I'm not certain how they will fix it. I think that people need to be more informed about labels if governments are choosing to use them more frequently. I feel like it may not happen very soon, but that this will definitely affect us dramatically in the future.

This idea that humanity will have a grand affect on the environment is preposterous. I take the George Carlin approach to this subject. The ecosystems themselves, the world and planet itself is fine. Look at the math, the time we have spent on this earth is microscopic in comparison to the history of the planet. Yes we are destroying the rainforests, the swamplands and drying up the oil reservoirs. But these are all renewable and will come back in time. If the entire human race were to disappear the world would reclaim what we have done and we would be just a memory. However, this damage we are doing will have an adverse affect on us, not the planet, so this whole save the endangered species is just another self-righteous act of human arrogance. Species of animals die every day, there is nothing we can do to stop them, let them go in peace. The real issue is if the planet will be inhabitable for us. We need to get it out of our heads this idea that the world is a living being that needs to be saved. No, we need to save ourselves, once again humanity has proven we are our own worst enemy. I find some of these statistics to be nonsense. There is more carbon dioxide in the world than it can recycle, then why aren’t we all dropping dead due to the lack of oxygen? As with anything it must be heeded with a grain of salt. Yes we need to claim social responsibility, but stop the tree hugging and realize that humanity is only creating a problem that won’t be truly recognized until it is too late, because to actually do anything about it would be an inconvenience to our everyday lives. This of course, is my opinion.
